Chennai, April 17, 2010: Dignity Foundation, an NGO working for the cause and care of elderly citizens, is organizing a 5-day long Film Festival for the 50+ citizen members of the city. This exclusive Film Festival for the elderly citizens is the first of its kind initiative in the country wherein, five handpicked movies of the yesteryears will be showcased from 17th April to 21st April 2010 at the South Indian film Chamber of Commerce.
The Dignity Film Festival will revisit the glory of cinema from the 1950’s to 1970’s by showcasing a mix of Tamil, Hindi and English movies. Naatyaacharya Shri. V P Dhananjayan & Smt. Shanta Dhananjayan will host the event.
Popular celebrity of yesteryears Smt. Lakshmi Sivachandran along with K Radhakrishnan, Director, Dignity Foundation Chennai inaugurate the festival along with Sreeja A R, GM, Dignity Foundation Chennai.
Speaking on the this unique initiative of Dignity Foundation, Dr. Sheilu Sreenivasan - Founder President, Dignity Foundation said “It has been our constant endeavour to cater to the needs and demands of the elderly citizens of our country. We have been diligently working towards reaching out to them and furnishing them with our services like Dignity Helpline, Dignity Dialogue Magazine, Dignity Second Career, Trusted Information on call etc. The Dignity Film Festival is yet another only one of its kind initiative of Dignity Foundation which aims at bringing our 50+ members together to take them on a nostalgic journey of classic movies of their time.”
K Radhakrishnan, Director, Dignity Foundation Chennai, added saying that, “In our day-to-day interaction with elder citizens, we realized that they have very limited options for entertainment and we have sensed their yearning for old movies being screened at theatres. To address this need and to provide a platform to the elderly citizens to get entertained with the movies of their time in a theatre set up, we have initiated the Dignity Film Festival in Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune and Kolkata.”
The Dignity Film Festival will see many film celebrities like Lakshmi Sivachandran on 17th April, Dr. Vyjayanthimala Bali & Y. Gee. Mahendra on 20th April and P. Suseela along with Naatyaacharya Shri. V P Dhananjayan & Smt. Shanta Dhananjayan on 21st April .
